We partner with area businesses, organizations and municipalities to make a difference in our neighbors’ everyday lives.
Each of our facilities has unique cultures, customs and opportunities to engage with its community. We seek to go beyond charitable donations and volunteer work, and instead look for opportunities to take leadership roles in improving the places we call home. Building Stronger Communities Around the World
At Harmac Medical Products, our commitment to community extends far beyond our facilities. From Buffalo, New York, to Castlerea, Ireland, and Tijuana, Mexico, we strive to make a lasting difference in the places we call home. Harmac works closely with local organizations and residents to strengthen neighborhoods, support education, and create opportunities that improve quality of life.
Buffalo, New York
The Bailey Green Initiative
In 2008, President and CEO John Somers made a defining decision: rather than relocate, Harmac would remain and reinvest in its East Side neighborhood, where one in four employees live. This commitment sparked the Bailey Green Initiative, a long-term effort to bring stability, opportunity, and pride to the area.
A Partnership for Positive Change
Working with the University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning and Professor Hiroaki Hata, Harmac helped develop a master plan uniting residents, students, and organizations under a shared vision. The effort grew into Bailey Green Partners, now more than 30 strong — including Habitat for Humanity, The Buffalo Peacemakers, GroundWorks Garden, and WEDI.
Lasting Results
- 21 new single-family homes built with Habitat for Humanity, with more planned
- 150+ trees planted and 4 acres of green space established
- 2.5 acres of abandoned land transformed into GroundWorks Garden, supplying local restaurants and a CSA program
- Collaboration with The Buffalo Peacemakers to promote safety and trust
- Support for WEDI, providing micro-financing and business development for local entrepreneurs
A Shared Vision for the Future
What began as one company’s commitment has grown into a model for corporate citizenship. Under John Somers’ leadership, Harmac continues to help Buffalo’s East Side thrive.
Castlerea, Ireland: Growing Together
As the largest employer in Castlerea, County Roscommon, Harmac is proud to call the town home and contribute to its growth.
A Partnership for Positive Change
- Somers Park: Named after the Somers family for their 25 year commitment to Castlerea and it’s people. Redeveloped public space with walking trails, playground, and outdoor exercise equipment
- The Castlerea Enterprise Hub: a mixed-use facility including a chef training school, Montessori, sports amenities, and office space
Supporting Local Causes
Harmac partners annually with local charities, encouraging employees to volunteer and fundraise to give back to the community.
Inspiring Future Talent
We collaborate with schools, colleges, and universities, providing mentorship, training, and hands-on learning experiences to inspire the next generation.

Tijuana, Mexico: Supporting with Heart
At our Tijuana facility, located in the city’s industrial park, Harmac supports initiatives that strengthen the community and celebrate local culture.

- Created an annual event honoring mothers, recognizing their important role in the community
- Formed an employee volunteer committee to give back locally
